This is an example of a customer furnished U.S. Army Ranger deployment photo. The customer wanted items included with the photo in order to create a miniature shadow box that symbolized his combat deployment to Afghanistan. We custom printed the customer’s photo at our facility. The photo was dry mounted using “release” foamboard. This is one of the conservation framing techniques we employ to prevent photographs from wrinkling. Next, we created a photo display design that placed the military deployment photo at the top of the frame. Below the photo is a mat opening that contains military memorabilia that reflect his deployment. These items include the 101st Airborne Assault Badge, the 10th Mountain Division unit patch, a mountain tab, a ranger tab, and the Security Force Assistance Advisor Team insignia. These items were secured in place using acid-free fasteners and adhesive. The photo and the memorabilia were framed using triple acid-free mats. The top and bottom mats are a buff-khaki color. This color matches the terrain around the outpost in the photo. The middle mat is an olive-green that matches the dark uniform colors. Surrounding the photo and the items is an open V-groove. The reveal created by the open V-groove provides and depth and symmetry for the frame’s design. A popular black finish wood profile was used to create the frame.
