Army Retirement Shadow Box Example
This is an example of a military retirement shadow box. This army retirement shadow box example is framed with a beret, a folded American flag, medals, ribbons, badges, unit patches, dog tags, a Certificate of Retirement, rank insignia, a military photograph of the retiree, and a custom nameplate. The focal point of this military retirement shadow box is the photograph of the retiree in the top left third of the frame. The top row contains a beret with the custom mat cut opening surrounding the beret. The beret is recessed into the opening. On the right of the beret is a folded American flag. Beneath that are medals and patches, a photograph of the retiree, and his Certificate of Retirement. The next rows contain additional badges, uniform insignia, and medals. Directly beneath the medals is a satin gold tone custom nameplate. Flanking each side of the nameplate are his rank pins. The last row contains patches for the different units he served in. The design that makes this military shadow box effective is its size and the use of triple black suede mats. Surrounding the objects inside the frame is an open V-groove with white bevels. The white bevels in the V-groove, and the white bevels in the window openings around the objects, provide relief from the black suede mats. The white bevels also provide depth for the objects framed. Layers of acid foamboard were used to create the depth necessary to separate the objects from the glazing. This army retirement shadow box is huge—measuring 36” x 50”. It is also so large that we had to attach it with special hangers on the back. However, the large shadow box conveys the story of a soldier who served a distinguished military career. Finally, the profile used for this shadow box is a black, all-wood frame. We can configure large or small military shadow boxes. We can do this with designs that artistically and tastefully present military memorabilia in a meaningful way. Our designs are intended to preserve your heirlooms for future generations to enjoy. We view military shadow box framing as an important aspect of heirloom protection.
