This is one of our military shadow box examples featuring the 4th Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment unit patches. The design for this shadow box is pretty much straightforward. It involves four layers of mats. The top and bottom mats are black silken mats. The texture in the mats mimics the texture in the unit patches. Bevels for these mats are reverse cut so that no white shows. The red and grey mats effectively catch the colors from the patches. The contrast between black and red develops well for this military shadow box design. Further enhancing the color contrast is the black wood frame with silver edging. . Although this is a rather simple shadow box, it has great visual appeal for something as simple as framing unit patches.
