Aviation Retirement Guidon Without Unit Designation Custom Frame
This is an example of a custom embroidered, cotton Aviation Guidon without a unit designation. The size is 12” x 9”. The guidon was presented for retirement. The recipient of this guidon had served with more than one aviation unit during his career. So, an aviation guidon without a unit designation was presented. In this example, the aviation guidon occupies the prominent top left position inside the frame. On the top right side of the guidon, inside the swallowtail area, are three openings cut into the mats for placement of aviation memorabilia. The items placed inside the swallowtail openings include from top to bottom: a rank pin, a U.S Army Master Aviator wing pin, and another rank pin. Triple acid-free/conservation grade mats corresponding to the guidon’s colors were used in the frame’s design. Beneath the guidon are three additional openings for objects related to a distinguished military career. These include from left to right: a 101st Airborne Division patch, a commemorative custom nameplate, and the Wisconsin National Guard patch. The mat colors for this design include Royal blue for the top and bottom mats. A mustard color was used for the center mat. Acid-free foamboard spacers were used to provide additional depth. The additional depth was necessary to separate the glass from the objects inside the frame. An open V-groove surrounds the guidon and the objects inside the frame. This open V-groove gives additional definition to the color scheme by revealing more of the mustard color in the mat. This 12” x 9” aviation guidon is similar to many of the designs in our e-commerce store. However, the major difference is this one has additional objects placed inside the swallowtail area. Finally, our most popular brown wood profile with metal corner caps is used for the frame. As this example demonstrates, we can easily modify any of the standard designs in our store. We will gladly accommodate objects that reflect a distinguished aviation career.
